Project Overview
In Typeface Talks, I produced a podcast episode exploring typography's role in branding. Created as a project for my Professional Brand Studio class, the episode demystifies typography's impact on brand identity using accessible language and real-world examples. We were free to choose any branding topic for the project, so I chose to spotlight typography (I'm a true typography nerd!). My goal was to engage and educate listeners on typography's practical and emotional effects on brand perception.
My Process
As the creator and host, I researched, scripted, recorded, and edited the episode. I organized the content into structured segments, covering the fundamentals of typography, current trends, and practical applications.
I used case studies and performed "mind-reading" tricks to keep things interesting and relatable for listeners who probably don't care all that much.
Key Highlights
Educational Segments
I divided the episode into six segments, covering the basics of typography, current design trends, case studies, and practical tips for incorporating typography into branding strategies.
Case Studies and Real-World Examples

Practical Tips

Conclusion and Emerging Trends
Rounded out the episode by exploring future directions in typography and emphasizing the importance of thoughtful, cohesive type design.
Outcomes
Listeners of Typeface Talks gain a comprehensive understanding of how typography supports brand identity and communicates directly with audiences. By blending theory, trends, and practical advice, I aimed to create a resource for brand strategists, designers, and anyone interested in branding.
Reflection
Creating Typeface Talks allowed me to dig deeply into an area of branding I'm passionate about and share insights with an audience eager to learn. I received positive feedback from my professor and classmates, affirming the value of informative content on typography, as I'm more of a nerd about it than most marketers.
*Bonus fact: The episode was only supposed to be around 10 minutes. I had to cut down the script significantly. I was down the rabbit hole, entirely fascinated by all the information I was learning. I used ChatGPT to estimate the speaking time while writing the script, and by the time I finished the introduction, it was already estimating 12 minutes. I realized then that I had to stick to the basics if I wanted it to come out anywhere close to the time. I could do a whole episode on sans-serif typefaces or a series on the history of characters in the alphabet.
